Yamagiwa Katusaburo was a Japanese #pathologist, the pioneer of Japanese cancer research. He and his assistant Ichikawa Koichi advocated that chronic stimulation is the cause of cancer. They conducted the experiments, using coal tar smeared on rabbit's ears and successfully induced artificial rabbit ear cancer. This is the first artificial cancer in the world. Yamagiwa's study has been nominated for the #Nobel Prize four times, and was awarded the Japan Academy Prize in 1919.
