Simamura Hogetsu was a Japanese literary critic, theater director and a pioneer of Japanese New #Drama movement. After leaving the #actor school founded by Japanese #author, Tsubouchi Shoyo, he founded the troupe "Geijyutsuza" with#actress Matsui Sumako. They performed famous works of the Western modern drama, and had a tour for performance. Matsui Sumako played a role in Tolstoy's "Resurrection", and had great acclaim from audiences.
