Alfred Lothar Wegener was a German #geophysicist and #meteorologist, best known for the theory of continental drift. He participated four time #Greenland #expeditions, and established three #permanent stations from which the thickness of the Greenland ice sheet could be measured and year-round Arctic weather observations made with participants. Wegener noticed that the different large landmasses of the Earth almost fit together, and speculated that all the continents were once joined together in a single landmass. In 1912, he advocated the theory of continental drift and published The Origin of Continents and Oceans.
